Due to # 9 falling on Easter, AND the host site dealing with a trojan virus that freaked out half the racers cause their antivirus programs didn't catch it (thankfully I have AVAST! and it immediately caught it when I opened the site...) this challenge was hosted by NDISB again. This time our challenge was to: scrap an altered art page. It can be about anything you want. You choose the subject, you choose the products. The only requirement is that it be in the altered art style. Simple enough!! Especially since I've had lots of experience with ATC's (artist trading cards) and my altered rooms. This time, though, I went with something a little more "fantasy"...lol

#10 came out today...but it's another ROADBLOCK and asking for the team member that didn't complete #6 to do this one. That gets me off the hook...lol...but it does require journaling which isn't something my partner is comfortable with. However, I did give her some great tips about making it easy on her...instead of writing several paragraphs about a particular subject...to make a list of things that scare her, or a list of what she would do with a million dollars. After I mentioned that, she was like, "OMG, now I'm not so terrified and know exactly what I'm going to do". I can't wait to see what she comes up with!! *giggles*

This Week's ADSR3 Challenges

I can't believe I've made it to Challenge7 & 8!! Normally, by now, real life has gotten in the way and I end up having to drop out of these types of challenges early. (Maybe having a partner helps...I don't want to let her down AND I really am having fun in stretching my mind in new ways to scrap.)

HOWEVER, this week was TOUGH!! Challenge 7 literally brought me to tears while reading the rules...

Team Member #1 - ONE DESIGNER - MESSY - No Journaling
Using the correct number of items as listed below, you must scrap using only ONE designers products. Pick your designer carefully and make sure they have all of the things listed on the list below, remember only ONE designer. (this does not include the use of drop shadow actions but does include the use of templates, mattes, shape files etc.) Once you choose your ONE designer you will be required to scrap in a Hodge Podge style, a little artsy and messy. No Journaling, ONLY TITLE WORK.

Use the following items: (Please remember this layout requires all pieces to be from the same designer)

1 - paper (only ONE paper, no other paper for mattes page borders, nothing)
2 - ribbons
3 - buttons
4 - glitter/gems/sequins or bling pieces
5 - frames
6 - pictures
7 - alphas (different but from the same designer unless created by you, we made an exception to this but alphas cannot be made of paper.)
8 - flowers/stars/cardboard pieces
9 - staples
10 - random elements of choice (all by the same designer, no more no less)

Team Member #2 - MULTI DESIGNER - CLEAN - Journaling "A letter"
Also using the correct number of items listed below, you must scrap using NO MORE than 2 items from the same deisgner. You will need to use many different designers for this layout. Again, no more than 2 items from the same deigner. You may use collab kits and mega kits as long as no more than two items come from any one designer in the kit. This layout needs to be done in a CLEAN style. Use of negative space is important however you will still need to use all of items listed below in the correct number assigned, so plan carefully. An alpha is considered one element, so you may use more than two of the same alpha pieces for any title work you may be doing. This layout has a theme attched so please read the journaling challenge slowly. The pictures MUST go with your layout and you MAY use stock photos or other pictures that clearly helps express the idea of the Layout. Please remember this is to be a clean minimal style layout but must also contain ALL of the items listed below, this includes the random elements of choice. You cannot choose to not use 5, you MUST use 5.

1 - photo matte
2 - staples
3 - pictures
4 - stitches
5 - random elements of choice
6 - flowers/stars/cardboard pieces
7 - papers (may be pieced) - your photo matte is NOT included in this count.
8 - buttons
9 - glitter/gems/sequins or bling pieces
10 -no less than 10 lines of journaling (may be more but no less)

Journaling: In this layout we are asking you to write a letter to your 16-17 year old self. As an adult now, give yourself advice on things you remember happening during this time or shortly after that would have been beneficial THEN. You may include information about your family and situations now to inspire hope. (You may also include pictures of now if that fits in with your journaling.) Picture cannot be the same image three times, must be three different pictures.

ACK!! I spent 7 full hours searching through all of my scrap files on my laptop, CD's and External HD...only to discover that I didn't have all of the required elements to do #1. Tears flowed and I stressed...finally contacted my partner. I ended up going with #2 since my partner had all of the required elements from one designer to do #1 and she doesn't feel comfortable at journaling. *WHEW* That took a load off of me!!

Took me 2 1/2 days, but once completed, it was definitely worth it!!

Next was challenge 8...
Scrap about your most memorable vacation or trip. It can be memorable for being everything you dreamed of, like your honeymoon or that magical Disney cruise, or it can be memorable because the airlines lost your luggage, the car rental place gave you a car that broke down on the way to the hotel that gave your room away to someone else because you were late checking in and the only room they have left is the one next to the ice machine and it's making noise all night long.

And because we love a good challenge, here are your restrictions:
1) Use only B&W Photo(s)
2) Do not use any travel themed elements or papers (i.e planes, trains or automobiles, postcards, etc.)
3) Use only ONE word as your title
4) You must incorporate the lyrics to some song in your journaling somehow. You don't have to include the whole song, just a line or even a few words. Just let us know what song it is in your credits.

Though still challenging not being able to use "travel themed elements or papers" it one was a LOT easier than number 7!! ROFL!! I chose to scrap about our 2 week visit to Chicago in 2002, because it was the last place that we all went together as a family.

12 Days Of Christmas...Gift 8 (Updates And Another LO)

I've been awake since 9:15am, and yet it is now 1pm and I'm JUST now getting online!! ARRGGHH!

My day started in a rush. OS was suppose to be at work at 9am, but we both ended up oversleeping. I woke as he came bursting through my bedroom door yelling, "LET'S GO!!" I look at the clock and moan. I get up, go to the bathroom to get ready and find 1 of 3 land mines that either one of the cats or Jack-Jack left in the doorway!! I quickly hoped one-footed to the bathroom and cleaned up.

After dropping off OS, I got back home, grabbed Kat and out the door we rushed to pay house note, drop off a package at the post office, then to Wal-Mart to pick up a few groceries and last minute gifts. By the time I got back home, it was time to fix lunch. And so...here we are!! Another day of rushing around... Yesterday was DAY 2 of the 40 Days of Scrapping Purpose at Divine Digital. My quest was to scrap the reasons why I scrap using my own color palette, 3 fonts, and a new technique. This is what I created:

Caught Up In A Creative Whirl-Wind...And A Freebie Too!! :D

For a while, it appeared that I had dropped off the face of the Earth...but I am alive and well, and have been working my creative fanny off!! *giggles* The first part of the week I bought blushbutter's VICTORIAN WEDDING KIT so that I could participate in dustybear's QP EXCHANGE. OMGoodness...y'all just wouldn't believe how gorgeous this kit is!! To see the previews just doesn't give it justice!! Anywhoos...this is my contribution.
Once it was completed, I got caught up in creating layouts and figured it was about time I got started on some of my CT-Layouts!! *giggles* This next layout features Baby Verbena by Kathryn Balint of KBandFriends.

You would think that I would have stopped there...but NOOOO!! The creative bug bit me so hard that I created another ABOUT ME-Challenge layout - The Many Faces Of Me (Phase II-page 7...Odd & Whimsical Pictures of You & Add a Story/Stories Describing the Situations.) This is an ongoing challenge at Tina Williams Designs yahoo group hosted by Idgie. With the exception of the duck, everything is from Tina Williams Designs.

Finally, this week started "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DESIGN" contest over at JUST FOR THE SCRAP OF IT. You know what that means--LOTS OF FREEBIES!! OMGoodness, I can't believe that it's after 3am!! Once I got started designing LO's yesterday evening, I couldn't stop!! LOL The first one is my daughter Kat, with one of her porcelain faeries that a friend made.

I reduced the transparency of the background to 40% and the doodles to 80%. I changed the blend mode of the dragonfly to Hard Light and the doodles to Burn. I applied dropshadows to the journaling, dragonfly & butterfly, and used Eye Candy 4000 shadowlab to the journaling, dragonfly, butterfly & doodles.

I cut out the background and chiseled the opening with a 50 transparency, re-added the cut out section of background and changed transparency to 30, resized the rose and butterfly, then changed their transparencies to 60.

About Me Challenge-My Personal History (Part 3)

Even though I spent most of the day in bed again, I did manage to get a lot accomplished!! I made dinner, cleaned the den, put on a load of laundry, and even found enough time to complete PART 3 of the ABOUT ME Challenge at Tina Williams Designs!!

Between these first 3 parts, I'd have to say that THIS particular challenge was the one I spent the most time on. Mainly was spent searching through all of my stuff for the photos and treasures that my Momma had saved for me. (The Baby Announcement Card that holds my very first photo and the Baby Greetings Card that holds my very first ring...two of my most treasured items!!)

About Me Challenge-My Family Tree

While spending most of the day in bed yesterday, (with my back) it gave me plenty of time to plan my LO for page 2 (My Family Tree) of the ABOUT ME Challenge at Tina Williams Designs. This LO started out as 1 page, but due to me not being able to chose 1 photo and still have room for journaling I had to spread it over to a 2nd page!!

Since this will be a book that I plan on printing, I used the same colored background as the cover to give it more of a cohesive appearance. I'm happy with how each page turned out, but me being me, I may add more elements by the time I print...at least some lace or ribbon!!
The journaling reads: Daddy & Momma married April 10, 1959. They had an amazing marriage that lasted nearly 33 years. Their love withstood the tests of time...even with death separating them June 26, 1992. After 8 years of being apart, they were reunited under the large oak tree October 14, 2000.

I miss them more than words can express...

The page that goes to print will have more details with full names, dates of birth, and other tidbits of info, but has been removed for safety/identity purposes.

My Day Started Off With A Snap-Crackle-POP!!

I'm thinking that I overdid the "cleaning thing" yesterday. Our dinning room was in a much needed cleaning and I had Kat give me hand...but due to the fact that I hadn't touched that room since Christmas, and it's only used as a "pass-through" from the kitchen to my room, it was pretty bad!! I won't go into the details, as that might give you nightmares, just be thankful you didn't have to see it...lol!!

Needless to say, this morning when I woke, my back gave me a loud snap-crackle-pop when I tried to get out of bed, and thus began my day of muscle spasms, and severe pain. I did manage to get OS to work on time, but hubby had to help me out of the car when I made it back home. I hate days like this...drug induced, fuzzy brain days where I do nothing but lie here. I did manage to catch up on my 360blog friends, but not good for anything else.

Speaking of hubby, I have wonderful news!! He starts work at the Truck Stop again...TOMORROW MORNING!! This is an answered prayer, cause my job search has turned up nothing, and bills are due again. I just hope that he doesn't experience the same problems with his paychecks this time.

Tuesday Thoughts...and a Challenge LO

#1. Having a Palmetto bug (wood roach with wings that FLY) crawl across my back makes me petrified with fear.
#2. Having that same bug crawl down my arm makes me scream while petrified with fear.
#3. Having it happen while sitting on the toilet makes for an embarrassing situation when hubby has to come save me.
#4. It takes 15 minutes for my blood pressure to calm down after having a panic attack followed by tears.
#5. Having ANOTHER Palmetto bug fly at my face while entering my bedroom makes me lose my mind!!
#6. Having that same bug LAND on my face causes me to scream like I'm dying.
#7. When having a bug on me, other than flinging it off of me, I can't doing anything but scream while petrified in one spot.
#8. Having hubby run to my rescue again, while laughing, didn't help my panic attack.
#9. Having hubby MISS the bug, and it run under my bed made for a very LONG night sitting in middle of bed with the lights on.
#10. After last nights terrifying events, my throat now hurts, my body is stiff, and I need a nap.

To understand more about my overwhelming fear about these bugs, I need to turn back the clock to when I was 9. My nanny was staying with us while recovering from hip replacement surgery and had been placed in my room...in my bed. So that had me sleeping in my brother's room. The lighting in his room wasn't that great, so I had taken a flashlight to bed with me so that I could read before going to sleep. Not long after burying myself under the covers, I heard this "swish" "swish" "swish" noise. Being 9, I was curious, threw back the covers and shined the light on the ceiling. No sooner had I exposed the light, 7-8 Palmetto bugs let go of the ceiling and flew towards me. Ever since that night, I am so petrified with fear, that it's hard to breathe, hard to move, and I can't do anything but scream. I've tried to overcome the fear, and for the most part I'm OK if it's during the daytime...but you let it be dark outside, and I'm back to being that same little 9 year old girl that can't get them off of me fast enough!!

Whew...ok...enough of that!! How about I share with you my latest LO!!

THURSDAY TOM FOOLERY...Challenges and LO's!!

Ever have one of those days that EVERYTHING just seemed funny to you?? Well, today was one of those days for me!! HEHEHE

It began this morning when I woke up from a dream where I was trying to fight my way through all of my loving kitties. I'd move an inch, and more would come running up for love. I woke to find myself fighting with my covers instead...lol...somehow I ended up being wrapped like a burrito and couldn't find my way out!! ROFL

Speaking of burrito...it's the name we've given one of the 2 newborns that are left of Little-Bit's siblings. Each day we clean her eyes and give her a bottle...just like we did with the last two. This one, however, is strong, and is growing, and is very active!! We named her Burrito because we have to wrap her in a towel, like a burrito, to keep her still when we are feeding her a bottle. She's the cutest thing you've ever seen!! Remember my little Runt?? Well Runt is half the size of the 1st batch of kittens, and Burrito is half the size of Runt. When she's sitting on my hand, she only takes up half of my palm!! Soon as I can, I'll take a few pics to share!!

Spent most of the day at the water/theme park again. Our high reached 96 today, so I decided I would do nothing more than lie on a tube floating around the lazy river. Of course, my daughter Kat talked me into going down the enclosed water slides again. FAIR WARNING: if ya ever have the pleasure of visiting Alabama Adventures Theme Park, you'll end up with a wedgie the size of King Kong once ya hit the pool at the bottom!! *giggles*

The YaYa Box, is a family tradition in certain Latino cultures, much like a Hope Chest, and while it did serve the purpose of protecting embroidered linens and handmade quilts, its true meaning and purpose went much deeper than the storage factor. The YaYa Box was filled with Hopes and Dreams -

A father or grandfather would build the box, which would then belong to the matriarch of the family. She would paint, decoupage, or in some way adorn a section on the outside of the box with a memorable scene from her life - wedding, birth, whatever was important to her. However, it was the underside of the lid that became the magic canvas - Here, the current owner of the box was to paint her most longed for Hope, Wish, Desire...This portion was kept secret until the box was passed on to the eldest daughter when she married, or daughter-in-law if there were no female children. The cycle continued until the box was completely covered by generations of art, inside and out.. Much thought went into the images on both the outside and inside of the box as each generation only has one space on each section to call her own.

Using any of Tina William's Kits that you desire, or a combination of Tina's kits, we're to SCRAP our own "YaYa Box". Page 1 will be your Outside Memorable Moment, and Page 2, the Inside of the Lid - Your Hope, Wish, Desire; Something that has yet to be fulfilled.

featuring some of the things that means the most to me.
(My children; my love of music; my love letters from Tommy
from when we were "long-distance" dating - that I keep tied
together with pink ribbons; and our wedding day.)
